National Provider Identifier
HIPAA has affected nearly everyone in health care since its 1996 inception. One of the latest requirements is the introduction of a National Provider Identifier (NPI). With the NPI on the horizon, you may have questions about how it may affect your practice and your interaction with San Francisco Health Plan as well as other health plans. We've put together some basic information, including a list of frequently asked questions, to help you understand the regulation and its requirements.
The deadline for acquiring a National Provider Identification number, May 23, 2007, has passed.
Now that you have received your NPI, please send a copy of your notification letter to SFHP at:
San Francisco Health Plan
Provider Relations
201 Third Street , 7th Floor
San Francisco , CA 94103
Phone: (415) 547-7818 ext 7084
Fax: (415) 615-6450
Once we have received your NPI notification letter, we will input the NPI number into our system. We are working to make this transition as smooth as possible for you and receiving your NPI number in advance will help us to do this. SFHP requests that providers wait until you receive notification from us before using it on claims and other transactions. Note: This number does NOT replace your tax identification number, so please continue to use that number so payment is made to the correct entity.
If you have any questions that are not answered by the links below, please contact the Contracts department.
