Here for San Francisco

We’re so sorry to hear that. You can still go to the doctor and get the care you need. California is a sanctuary state and San Francisco is a sanctuary city.

No, we do not, unless required by law. California is a sanctuary state and San Francisco is a sanctuary city, which means by law, we limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. An example of when we would be required to cooperate is if we receive a request (warrant) from the federal courts signed by a judge.

No, they won’t. You can get the care you need regardless of your immigration status.

We’re glad you’re happy with HealthySF, but please keep in mind that it is not health insurance, which gives you access to more services. Medi-Cal covers preventive care, annual check-ups, prescription medications, mental health services, in-home care, and even transportation services to your medical appointments. All California residents can now sign up for Medi-Cal regardless of their immigration status.

Current Requirements for Medi-Cal

Your whole family can get Medi-Cal.

Changes made by California mean that:

  • Adults between the ages of 26 to 49 can get Medi-Cal.
  • Immigrants can get Medi-Cal no matter what their legal status is.
  • When you enroll in Medi-Cal, you will not be asked to provide asset information as part of the income requirements. Learn more about this change here.

If you were told you cannot get Medi-Cal before, you may now qualify.
