Signs of Addiction

We want to be careful of how often we drink. Drinking can become a problem and may turn into an addiction. Do not drink and drive, which can lead to a DUI offense (arrest, fines, etc.) or even death.

Common signs of addiction include:

  • Drinking more than you wanted
  • Having a hard time cutting back
  • Putting yourself at risk of harm, like drinking and driving
  • Drinking-related trouble with the law
  • Hurt relationships
  • Changes in actions or moods
  • Not taking care of your health
  • Problems in work and personal life

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans suggests only 2 drinks or less in a day for men and 1 drink or less in a day for women. Also, some people should not drink alcohol at all, such as people who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, and people under the age of 21.
