1 in 5 people who are pregnant feel sad, lonely or afraid during pregnancy and after giving birth. You are not alone or to blame if you feel this way. Getting better physically and emotionally after you give birth takes time and support. It is important that you have help while you are pregnant and learning to be a parent.

Things you can do to take care of your mental health

  • Take care of your health by eating healthy foods and getting exercise and sleep.
  • Get support from a trusted person, who can help you during and after pregnancy.
  • With your baby, be sure to attend all the wellness visits planned by your doctor.
  • Talk with your provider about your feelings during the visits you have after giving birth (postpartum visits)
